about

I began recording myself around the age of 16. I borrowed a tascam 4-track cassette recorder from a friend and used an old live vocal mic from Radio Shack. I was terrible at both recording and playing, and most of my recordings consisted of me twisting the pitch wheel to mask shitty singing, and 5 or 6 guitars wanking off together with zero regard for proper signal-to-noise ratio. The songs were panned funky with the sounds of people moving around in the background, chairs squeaking, cables buzzing. There are pops, clicks, snaps, and tape hiss, all sorts of fun little quirks that make cassette recording so much fun.

This collection takes some of my favorite self-recorded jams from 1995-2001. I utilized a multitude of 4-track cassette recorders on the majority of these songs, though I did make use of a Yamaha AW4416 16-track digital recorder on tracks 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 17, and 18.
